"Kalmar’s promise: “Making your every move count."

Nordic roots
Kalmar’s foundations lie deep in Finnish and Swedish engineering expertise, yet its organisation is made up of many great businesses from around the world. All of these have contributed to the knowledge and expertise that got Kalmar where it is today.

From cranes to containers
Kalmar's story began with crane manufacturing in the Netherlands in the 19th century, and continued with its successful tractor distribution business in the middle of the 20th century in North America. As Kalmar entered the 21st century, its focus turned to Asia-Pacific, the region that has become more and more important for the future success of the company's business.

Kalmar developed the first industrial straddle carrier in the 1940s, and the first RoRo tractor in the 1970s. To meet the need for more efficient container handling, Kalmar commercialised the first generation of reachstackers in the 1980s and, a decade later, introduced the first container handler for rough terrain operations. Its first steps in terminal automation were taken more than 20 years ago.

Exceeding expectations
With these innovations and many others Kalmar revolutionised the cargo and container handling industries. The company combined its passion with experience and deep knowledge of the industry. The aim is to exceed the customer's expectations, again and again.
